Our Programs
Sara Elizabeth Centre

Working collaboratively with other organizations, parents and support personnel, we provide a program where every individual with exceptionalities can grow to reach their fullest potential. All of the programs offered at SEC are open to youth 13 years of age and older with developmental and/or physical challenges at a ratio of (1) one staff member to every (7) seven participants.

The programs are designed to increase the participant’s motivation and enhance their personal experience through the introduction of various educational arts based and recreational activities, primarily through the art of music, drama, dance and visual arts as a means of learning and self- expression.

We offer an inclusive environment that promotes self-esteem, individuality, teamwork, life-skills, self-advocacy and independence. We also offer
Co-Operative Education, Placement or Volunteer opportunities. We welcome and invite guest speakers, and artists of all disciplines to come and spend a day at SEC to teach and share their art with our participants.



Runs weekly from 9:30am to 3:00pm

Sara Elizabeth Centre offers a flexible, full day programming that promotes active integration into the community, to families who have a post 21 young adults with developmental and/or physical challenges. Youth who are not returning to high school come and participate in

    • Theme based daily activities
    • Arts program through music, drum, dance, drama, visual arts
    • Life skills training and culinary arts
    • Basic intermediate level computer training courses
    • Educational instruction in literacy and numeracy
    • Participation in physical activity to promote physical, emotional and cognitive well being

    The Centre has access to a kitchen and a small gym facility in order to meet program needs and requirements. Classroom space is available in a safe and inclusive home like environment, which allows the delivery of the music, arts and education programs. It is located on a large park like setting which is safe, nurturing and wheelchair accessible.

    Through the year workshops and retreats are facilitated by the Executive Director who invites elementary and secondary school students to come and spend a day with our participants so that they can establish a meaningful, lasting one-to-one friendship with their peers. Allowing our participants to integrate with peers in a group setting, not only helps increase their self-esteem and confidence but they experience a sense of fellowship.

    Through the acquisition of a transportation van SEC schedules local fieldtrips and addresses transportation issues for families.

    Our staff are qualified role models who deliver all aspect of the day programs activities but we also include guest speakers and artists to visit for specific program content on various occasions. Community partnerships are developed and nurtured to ensure collaboration and accessibility.



With this expansion in services offered at the Sara Elizabeth Centre more youth aged 13 and older can now participate. Serving young adults with special needs through customized programming and instruction.

    • The health and wellness program fosters independence and creativity while focusing on life skills.
    • A computer technology-training program provides basic to advanced computer training for personal and educational use. The Computer Training Instructor will train young adults with disabilities to have basic computer knowledge that will assist them to communicate and connect with family and community.
    • Tutoring youth and giving homework assistance.
    • Play time in the new indoor game room along with outdoor activities like baseball, volleyball, soccer, bocce, etc.
    • Peace Garden planting and tending of the grounds gives youth a sense of ownership and joy as they see the fruits of their labor with love.

This program is a great one for anyone interested in having they son/daughter transition into a day program. Every Saturday morning from 10:00am – 2:00 pm high school aged youth and young adults interact and connect with their peers, volunteers, staff and enjoy catching up or making new friends. We encourage youth to discover their gifts as we introduce them to our arts programs giving them an opportunity to express their gifts and shine like stars!

Each participant gets a chance to share in drum circle, circle of friends, art activity, outdoor activities, visual arts and much more.


March Break, Summer Camp or Winter Camp all have one thing in common. It is a place where youth can come to make new friends, participate in the arts and enjoy both indoor and outdoor activities. Also great for families who are looking for a day program to transition their child into.

High school students come to join in our day program from 9:30am to 3:00pm

Schedules are adjusted to include seasonal themes and guests are included to create a fun, and interactive time together. We encourage everyone to participate in the variety of activities that revolve around the arts primarily drama, dance, visual arts and music. Outings and field trips are scheduled accordingly to support our weekly agenda.

It is a time to participate, socialize, make new friends, interact with community partners who also come and visit along with volunteers and staff.

Did you know that…


    • Students who play a musical instrument or sing develop spatial reasoning and thinking skills that enable them to perform better in other subjects
    • Music helps students gain self-confidence, make new friends and develop their talents.

    Instruments include: Drum, Bass, Percussion, Electric or Acoustic guitar, Vocal, Piano, Keyboard, Accordion, Cello, Flute

    With Full –time professional musicians. All of the instructors are accomplished performers and perform regularly in the community.

    Students will receive one (1) private or group lesson per week and instructor one-on-one.


Ever month SEC invites other charities, friends and participants to a dance party.

For 2 hour from 7:30 – 9:30pm participants and friends let loose and have a great time.
