Don Smith is the Chair of the Board of Directors for Blue Veil Ministry. Don manages and operates his own business and over the past 25 years has provided full-time and part-time opportunities to young people who are in need of job training through job placement. Don personally oversees their training and helps them prepare professionally, providing them with the job skills they need to enter today’s working force. To date, he has helped many young people move forward in their careers of interest, making a remarkable impact in their personal lives.
Don attended Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in 1977 and received a degree in Business Administration majoring in Marketing/Management. He is well known in his parish community for both his volunteer work as a Salesian Co-operator as well as his involvement with several young artists in the music field, in which he provides direction and support and helps facilitate and run various programs at his parish.
As an entrepreneur, husband and father of 8 children, Don has many qualities that make him a valuable member to the board and an effective board chair. He understands and enforces the rules for meetings, is a good leader, planner, organizer, communicator, confidant and liaison and is conscience of the needs of today’s youth. He has the ability to clarify generalizations, articulate the board’s goals and directions, grasp the importance of community engagement and communication and understand the board’s role in the school community.
